Work In Progress / 14 June 2021

This is based on the illustration by Wayne Reynolds. I've always really liked the illustration and it's been on my todo list for years now.

What follows bellow is a few of the screen shots I've taken over the past week(ish) as I've been getting around to finishing her off.

After a number of attempts at setting up the dress to use unreal's cloth (which likely would work quite well, but would require rebuilding the whole dress from scratch I returned to a simple rig  system that seems to work well enough).

Sylvie(ish) - Altered Carbon inspired

Work In Progress / 04 December 2020
I originally started this as head sculpt loosely inspired by the description of Sylvie from the third Altered Carbon book (Woken Furies).

But a lot of what I was imagining was actually what I would do from a technical art side - eg, the circuitry in her skin. Which was something that proved to be a lot less straight forward than I had anticipated - initially I assumed I'd be able to do it through texture with fun gradients to randomize the timings speed and direction of the emissive movement, but the detail of it meant that it would alias terribly. So I had turn to a mesh based approach where vertex color stores the direction and timing and offsets. You can see the circuitry geo in the sculpt above.

I still don't feel completely finished with the whole thing yet so I'm still calling this a work in progress :/
